How I Became AFC Personal Trainer of the Year 2017

I would like to give my thanks to FIT Singapore for the opportunity to allow me to share my story with the Personal Trainers/Fitness Coaches in Singapore.
Firstly, let me share with you the challenges in my life. When I was a child, I did not speak until the age of ten and was suspected of having High-Functioning Autism (HFA). Individuals with HFA  display lacking in areas of communication, emotion recognition, expression, and social interaction. Hence, it is a real challenge for me as Personal Trainer/Fitness Coach that demands a lot of social interaction.
Here are a few quotes that inspired me on my journey and I hope sharing will inspire you too.

“You need to associate with people that inspire you, people that challenge you to rise higher, people that make you better. Don’t waste your valuable time with people that are not adding to your growth. Your destiny is too important.” – Joel Osteen

Passionate, committed colleagues and friends surround me in the fitness industry. Everyone of them gives their best efforts to their career. They are amazing fitness leaders that inspired me day in and day out. So to set myself apart, it has been necessary to become an exceptional listener and surround myself with the best of the best in the fitness industry.

“Success is stumbling from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm.” – Winston Churchill

I am not a perfect being. I have my share of failure. Starting out I only could get two personal training clients after conducting 20+ fitness orientations. I made the mistake of double booking my personal training sessions and caused a client to be extremely upset and cancelled his gym membership immediately.
I did fail.
However, learning from our mistakes is one of the best ways to learn. Do not be afraid to fail. Because if you do not fail, how can you be successful? Following my failures, within months I turned things around. I was able to clinch Top 3 Personal Trainer in Singapore in December 2009 and on four separate occasions over the next few years. I was the trainer for two finalists in the New You Achievement Awards and this year I received the AFC 2017: Personal Trainer of The Year and winner for Project Elite: Bangkok.

“I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious.” – Albert Einstein

I am an extremely curious Personal Trainer/Fitness Coach and I love to know more in detail.  Thanks to the courses and workshops offered by Asia Fitness Conference and FIT Singapore, I am constantly able to learn and sink deeper into the knowledge abyss.

“Absorb what is useful, discard what is useless and add what is specifically your own” – Bruce Lee

This quote I hold close to my heart and my way of life. To be a better coach and a better person, you need to keep learning what is good, unlearning what is irrelevant. Yet, the most important aspect is having your own style of training and coaching.
Please take the above as inspiration to continue to evolve as a Trainer, Coach, Role Model and Individual and never stop learning.

BE THE BEST THAT YOU CAN BE – AFC 2017
