GET DOWN. GET UP. STAY CAPABLE
Learn how to assess, coach and programme one of our most fundamental human abilities, moving confidently from standing to the ground and back again.
A highly practical one-day course for exercise professionals who want to build better mobility, coordination, control and lifelong movement capacity.
Floor-to-Stand Movement for Lifelong Strength, Mobility and Independence
Getting down to the floor and rising again is one of the most fundamental movement skills we use throughout life.
Modern lifestyles give adults fewer reasons to squat, kneel, sit on the floor, transition between positions or rise from the ground. Over time, reduced exposure to these movements affects mobility, coordination, stability, confidence and movement options.
Ground Up Strong is a one-day practical course designed for exercise professionals, movement coaches and fitness practitioners who want to assess and develop ground-based movement capacity.
You will explore the Sitting-Rising Test, ground-to-stand transitions from multiple starting positions, centre-of-mass control, mobility and stability, coordination and archetype rest postures.
The focus moves beyond performing exercises. You will learn how to observe movement, identify where clients struggle, select suitable regressions and progressions, coach transitions and integrate floor-based movement into warm-ups, training sessions, recovery and home practice.
The goal is simple.
Help people maintain the physical capacity and confidence to move independently throughout life.

WHY GROUND UP STRONG?
Traditional programmes often focus on strength, cardiovascular fitness and flexibility.
Moving between the floor and standing brings several physical qualities together within one task. Strength, mobility, balance, coordination, sequencing, body awareness and centre-of-mass control all contribute.
Ground Up Strong places this overlooked movement skill back into training.
For younger and active clients, floor transitions provide movement variety, coordination and movement competency.
For middle-aged and older adults, these skills become increasingly relevant to confidence, physical independence and healthy ageing.
For exercise professionals, Ground Up Strong adds an area of coaching skill rarely addressed through conventional resistance or cardiovascular training.
THE GROUND UP STRONG APPROACH
- Assess movement.
- Observe how your client gets down and rises.
- Build options.
- Expose your client to different seated, kneeling, prone and supine positions.
- Develop control.
- Train centre-of-mass shifts, stability, mobility and coordination.
- Restore floor confidence.
- Build familiarity with ground contact and transitional movement.
- Integrate movement.
- Use these skills within preparation, conditioning, recovery and everyday practice.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Ground Up Strong suits personal trainers, movement coaches, strength and conditioning coaches, group fitness instructors, yoga and Pilates instructors, allied health assistants working within their professional scope, coaches working with older adults and fitness enthusiasts with sound exercise knowledge.
The course has particular relevance for professionals working with middle-aged adults, older adults, sedentary clients and people seeking better mobility and movement confidence.
Ground Up Strong is not positioned purely as a senior fitness course. Floor competence matters across adulthood.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of Ground Up Strong, you should be able to:
- Explain how sedentary behaviour and reduced floor contact influence mobility and movement competency.
- Explain the research and purpose behind the Sitting-Rising Test and apply its scoring principles within your professional scope.
- Observe mobility, stability, coordination and centre-of-mass control during floor-based movement.
- Coach ground-to-stand transitions from supine, prone, seated and kneeling positions.
- Select appropriate regressions and progressions according to movement ability and confidence.
- Apply practical coaching cues and movement observations to improve transition quality.
- Explain the role of coordination, motor learning and repeated movement exposure across the lifespan.
- Introduce archetype rest postures such as squatting, kneeling, cross-sitting and side-sitting.
- Integrate ground-to-stand movements and rest postures within warm-ups, circuits, conditioning, recovery and cooldown formats.
- Develop simple home-practice strategies which encourage clients to maintain floor movement as part of everyday life.
